Former President Donald Trump’s tenure was notable for its absence of new military conflicts, diverging from typical Republican administrations.
As a Black Muslim naturalized immigrant, my decision to support him in the contentious 2020 election was unconventional. Despite his administration’s scapegoating of immigrants and dismissal of new citizen votes, Trump’s narrow defeat to President Biden was followed by the alarming Capitol insurrection, exposing authoritarian tendencies within the Republican party.
Trump’s sympathetic stance towards Vladimir Putin and confrontational approach with the European Union hinted at potential strains on Western alliances. His failure to peacefully transfer power and lack of remorse for the Capitol riot further damaged America’s global reputation.
Trump’s presidency risked America’s status as a democratic leader, with implications for human rights and global alliances, potentially isolating the U.S. and intensifying domestic turmoil.
These challenges cast doubt on his “Make America First Again” agenda, leaving unresolved questions about America’s future global role.
