On 2 September 2019, with the support of the international community and partner organisations, and after due consultations with the Federal Government of Somalia and Galmudug authorities, AMISOM deployed forces in Dhusamareeb with the purpose of helping create a conducive environment for the reconciliation conference to take place and supporting the establishment of security conditions for the ensuing electoral process to evolve in a peaceful and violence free environment. As a result, an all-inclusive conference was successfully concluded, opening the way for the electoral process to begin and the elections to take place.
AMISOM congratulates all the newly elected members of the Galmudug State Assembly, the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker and the President of the Federal Member State of Galmudug and wishes them success in their new positions.
AMISOM is aware that a lot still needs to be done and urges President Ahmed Abdi Kariye to continue with the spirit of the Galmudug Reconciliation Conference and ensure that all stakeholders that constitute the State of Galmudug have a guaranteed place around him.
